It’s the most wonderful time of the year. In Korea, Christmas is a day for friends and family as well as a time for consuming entertainment be it Television or music.

Here, we have chosen our favourite 25 songs released from the world of K-pop ranging from first generation bands to songs released as recently as 2024.

Twice – Merry and Happy

Arguably, the queens of K-pop music in Korea, there are not many groups associated with Christmas in the music industry other than TWICE. With multiple Christmas songs, it was only a matter of when they would be featured in this advent calendar.

Released in 2017, the album Merry & Happy features many of the group’s greatest and most iconic hits, “Likey” and “Missing you”, repackaged with two newly released tracks “Heart Shaker” and “Merry and Happy”, providing fans with the ultimate present of K-pop royalty the song had a lot of pressure to live up to the group’s other well-established tracks.

Starting with a Sleigh bell, the song would quickly see its first tempo change as we would be treated to the wonderful vocals of the members. The song cleverly instrumentals to account for the change in vocal pitch and each member’s differing voices.

The use of heavy instrumentals provides a welcome contrast to Twice’s previous tracks, while cheerful lyrics about spending Christmas with the ones they love alongside videos of the group spending time together showcase their relationship, bringing a perfect message to all their fans.

Overall, the song is a great, cheerful Christmas song but often feels instrumental heavy, which sometimes feels too much. The song really benefits from its music video, where its quick cuts to action and shot selection help keep up with the high tempo and energy of the members, making for a music video perfect for all twice fans.
