Korea’s trailblazing pop-rock band embark on new journey in their latest title song as they promise fans a long future after military hiatus.
A lot has changed in the three years since DAY6‘s final instalment of their album series, The Book of Us, which ended with Negentropy in April 2021. The first band signed to a K-pop ‘big three’ entertainment industry, their legacy has been felt across the industry, with the debut of JYP Entertainment’s latest band, Xdinary Heroes, and the emergence of Korean band challenge shows Superband in 2019 and Great Seoul Invasion in 2022. The band have built upon this success, making history as the first-ever artist by JYP Entertainment to feature all singles chart on the Melon Top 100 music chart.

Welcome to the Show marks a new journey since former member Jae Park‘s departure in December 2021. It follows the members’ solo success, with Dowoon, Young K and Wonpil releasing individual songs and EPs. Welcome to the Show is a welcome reminder of the group’s capabilities and talent, which made them famous throughout the late 2010s.
Following in the footsteps of other K-pop and K-rock bands, the song title promises fans a long and prosperous future in a love song showcasing each member’s talents, reflecting on their time away from the main stage. Reminiscent of titles such as CNBlue’s Now Then, and Forever and Bigbang’s Still Life.

Reminiscent of previous fan favourites Best Part and Time of Our Life, the song is an energetic, fast-paced electronic rock song made for the stage. “I’m so moved by the stage”, vocalist Young K opens softly. “Still holding onto your hand/ Even on the day that the curtains come down.” The band offers an open invitation to fans to join them on stage and enter a brand-new era.
Talking about the inspiration behind the song and its lyricism, the band’s lyricist Young K said in an interview with NME, “When I was going around, doing all the shows and performing songs like ‘Best Part’ or ‘Time of Our Life’, songs that make people jump and sing along, I felt like we needed that kind of track.”
Led by a new sense of direction, the song sees all members chant in a newfound sense of unison, with the standout being the deep voice of often-quiet Dowoon. ‘Welcome To The Show’ sees DAY6 distribute verses evenly. The song benefits from the harmonisation of Young K and Sungjin on joint verses followed by the soft vocals of Wonpil.

With great energy and composition, the song is simple but catchy. Promising to capture the hearts of fans and get crowds off their feet when they inevitably tour once again. Representing a new sound, DAY6 has dealt with adversity and put fans’ minds at ease under a new member formation.
